Analysts confirm that the proposal of a capitalist direction for Zulia is intended to prepare the general public for a violent separation from the rest of Venezuela and the privatization of public services. Let’s also remember that on “Zulia Day” the US Ambassador in Venezuela, William Brownfield was invited to a local television programme in which he catalogued Zulia as the best state of Venezuela. In 2005, Brownfield visited Zulia some 17 times and this state is also where the war games exercise “Operation Balboa” to invade Venezuela was played out in Madrid in May 2001 by NATO and US commanders. Authorities and the media had previously alerted about the existence of a secessionist plan for Zulia as part of actions planned against the government of President Chavez. This state where a great deal of Venezuela’s oil wealth is located, is controlled by opposition governor Manuel Rosales who has been accused of participating in conspiracy meetings with ex military coup mongers and Colombian paramilitaries. Gloria Gaitan, daughter of assassinated Colombian leader Jorge Eliécer Gaitan, confirmed in a public statement the subversive character of a recent meeting which took place in Colombia where Rosales was present. This accusation had earlier been made by Mayor of Maracaibo, Giancarlo di Martino, although Rosales maintained that there is no evidence of such a journey of his to Colombia on the date when the conspiracy meeting took place. Gaitan observed that Rosales’ visit to Colombia “was not registered simply because the visit itself was subversive”. “He obviously had to go under cover and it seems to me that this is the most dangerous signal about what is underway”, she added. Gaitan considers that it is an international conspiracy against Venezuela “because the globalization of political interests goes hand in glove with economic interests”, she declared. Reports indicate that the denouncements made, that Zulia is being taken over as “free territory by criminal and terrorist organizations with the cooperation of the Governor. These groups are dedicated to kidnapping, extortion and vehicle theft. Footnote: Any “declaration of Zulia’s independence” by Governor Rosales could lead to military action to unseat this self-appointed coup monger as President of Zulia. This could trigger a series of events and destabilization in western Venezuela leading to an excuse for the US to send troops or UN Peace Keepers arriving as is the case in Haiti. The obvious intention is to capture the oil supplies. This secessionist adventure in not new and forms part of the overall destabilization plan being hatched in Langley at CIA headquarters. Maximum alert is required by the Venezuelan military and the Venezuelan people, as well as international support from workers and trade unionists worldwide. Related Article from Venezuela Solidarity:
Separatist campaign intensifies in Zulia State The daily newspaper VEA reported today (February 24th) that the separatist campaign in Zulia state is gaining momentum. There has been a multimillion dollar publicity campaign in the state with advertising hoardings, tee shirts and slots on local TV and radio. The slogans being used are “Own direction for Zulia”, and “Zulian capitalism in favour of the poor”. The publicity campaign has coincided with the re-opening of the US Consulate in Maracaibo which was closed several years ago. Political observers have commented that the funds for the campaign are coming form the same sources in the US which fund Sumate. Veteran oil union leaders pointed out that in 1935 a similar campaign was openly carried out with US backing to separate Zulia from the rest of Venezuela in order to constitute as an “Associated State of the United States of America”. This would place Zulia on the same status as Puerto Rico. The connivance of Zulia Governor Manuel Rosales in this campaign cannot be ignored since he held at least 17 meeting with US Ambassador Brownfield in 2005. After President Chavez’ recent visit to Zulia where a number of initiatives to improve living and working conditions were announced with central government funding, the presence of Governor Rosales was earmarked by his glaring absence at these events. Any attempt at separating Zulia from the rest of Venezuela would be unconstitutional and would cause destabilization ripples across the country, which is exactly what the US and its internal lackeys are aiming for, to undermine the national government and President Chavez in particular. Trouble in the air Venezuela was audited by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and received a certificate from the audit on the restructuring and modernization of the aeronautical sector, confirming that Venezuela was complying in 89% with all ICAO norms, far above the world average. This decision taken by the Venezuelan authorities will effectively cancel all flights to Venezuela by Delta and Continental Airlines and severely restrict the operations of American Airlines. The measure will come into force on March 1st. http://www.venezuelasolidarity.org.uk/ven/ |
