An American Death in Gaza? Who will be punished? Who will benefit?, Axis of Logic Editorial, October 16, 2003

All one has to do to see the mission of the corporate media in the U.S. is to review the coverage of the bombing of a U.S. convoy today in Gaza.  Please take a look [below] at the massive coverage of today's single attack in Gaza which resulted in three American deaths. Compare it with the coverage Associated Press gives to the scores of Palestinian, Afghan and Iraqi people being killed each day by Israel and the U.S. military.  One could also compare it with the very little coverage given to the deaths of U.S. soldiers in Iraq. Who will be punished for this crime? Who will benefit?  These are questions that are explored in the analysis that follows the AP excerpt.  The coverage of this attack below is found on a single page at Associated Press.

Bush Blames Palestinians for Gaza Deaths

(AP) - President Bush blamed Palestinian authorities Wednesday for the deaths of Americans in an attack in Gaza, saying their failure to create terrorist-fighting security forces "continues to cost lives." "Palestinian authorities should have acted long ago to fight terror in all its forms," the president said in a written statement as he flew to California for an overnight visit en route to Asia. Analysis

The coverage the media devotes to the killing of Palestinian and Iraqi people is virtually non-existant, compared with this blanket coverage by the corporate media.  There is little room to doubt that Israel, the neocons in full control of Middle East foreign policy in Washington, and the Zionist media moguls see this attack as an opportunity to rampage and kill with even greater impunity than they have over the last 3 years - although I must admit, it's a difficult thing to imagine.

Treatment of violence and punishment in the entertainment media

This real treatment of another violent death in Gaza by the news media reminds one of the depictions of violence and the punishment of violence in the entertainment media.  Over the years, a foundation has been laid in the American mind for rationalizing criminal behavior on the part of the government.  But the abandonment of any sense of due process or pretense of justice since the 9/11/01 attacks represents a quantum leap in institutionalized injustice.

Most of us grew up with at least the myths of criminal justice and notions of "innocent until proven guilty", etc.  For decades, Hollywood and NYC Television have been eroding such ideals with the blatant racism of TV shows like "Cops" and the rationalized, sanitized and normalized police brutality depicted in "NYPD" and other police shows.  These shows use a simple 3-step formula for brain-washing:

1. First, the viewer is presented with a brutal or violent event such as the murder of a family or a rape or kidnapping of a child.  Deep feelings of sadness and horror are elicited as the viewer watches an innocent bludgeoned, raped or assaulted in some other way.  skillfully trained to hate the villain.  The sad story

2. Second, the viewer is skillfully trained to hate the perpetrator of the crime.  The "perp" is presented as a scowling, cynical, hateful, dirty, sneering, deceitful person who can kill without remorse.  As the story progresses, the viewer only wants vengeance as emotions are played between the perp and the victim.  As the end of the story approaches, the viewer's most inhumane reactions are tapped.  By the time the show ends, the viewer imagines he could kill the perpetrator himself and only wants him to die ... and with pain.  Thus, shows often depict the perpetrator dying an awful death ... and the viewer experiences a rush of satisfaction.

3. The third step in the formula is to depict the victim and the victim's family as happy, peaceful and with deep satisfaction that the perpetrator has been caught and punished.  The news and entertainment media has become fond of the word "closure" for the victim.  Real victims however, tend not to like the term at all.

Entertainment violence and punishment applied to the real world

Now those television viewers are segued through "reality TV" to the real world of explosions, bodyparts, blood, monsters and victims.  The new TV-justice is applied in the forms of high-altitude bombing, DU weaponry, destruction of entire national infrastructures, razed family homes, bulldozed fruit orchards and wide swaths of death.  The enemy has been destroyed and those "innocent civilians" only add to the surreal drama, leaving a little sadness in the heart of the viewer.  Their deaths add an almost elegant touch to the viewer's experience.  They enable the viewer to feel from afar, a bit of pseudo-compassion for the "innocent civilians".  With that residual sadness, the viewer explains the tragic element in all of this, "collateral damage" and easily blames the monster or villain who was created at the beginning of the miserable tale.

Villains and Victims

So fields have been plowed, cultivated and seeded in the American mind.  Through this kind of mind-control, the typical viewer barely needs to be told that the evil, bearded Muslims - in this case the Palestinians - are the bombers and that they have attacked America.

This time the "monsters" have attacked America in the "holy land", the land where Jesus-the-Jew was born, lived and died; the land that God promised to the Jews through the Abrahamic covenant.  The viewer has been told for 50 years that those evil, bearded Muslims want only to destroy Israel and were it not for America, Israel would surely be "pushed into the sea" - Israel, the Jews, victims again.  So the viewer will not only expect revenge for this car bombing which killed two guards and a U.S. envoy.  They will expect it and they will want it.

Revenge and Reward

The U.S. and Israeli governments will deliver vengeance by lashing out with even greater fury against the beaten down, hapless Palestinian people.  Their abject misery will continue. The racism against Arabs and Muslim people will be reinforced.  The U.S. will give more hard-earned tax dollars of its citizens to what French Ambassador called "that shitty little country" in December, 2001.  Israel will steal more land and expand it's borders again. The Palestinian people will endure more suffering when the world thought it not possible.

Motives and who benefits?

Finally, - regarding this bombing of the U.S. envoy, one must ask the question any good homicide detective asks:  Who benefits.  Do the Palestinian people benefit?  Does the Arafat, the PA, Hamas, Hezbollah or any of the resistance movement benefit?  Well, one might think that the resistance got a good lick in on the invaders and occupiers.
So perhaps it was a member of the Palestinian resistance.  But a good detective has to keep an open mind about possible suspects. Who benefits the most from this attack?  Well, judging from the coverage given to this attack by the U.S. corporate media, it is reasonable to assume that the Israelis benefit the most ... and Mossad is no stranger to carrying out violent attacks and planting Arab flags at the scene of the crime.

Perhaps most well-known madness on Israel's part was the infamous Lavon Affair. In 1954 Israel carried out several acts of terrorism against British targets in Egypt, blaming the attacks on the Muslim Brotherhood, which opposed the regime of Egyptian President Gamul Abdul-Nasser. The truth about the wave of terror is found in a once-secret cable from Col. Benjamin Givli, the head of Israel's military intelligence, who outlined the intended purpose behind the wave of terror:

"[Our goal] is to break the West's confidence in the existing [Egyptian] regime. The actions should cause arrests, demonstrations, and expressions of revenge. The Israeli origin should be totally covered while attention should be shifted to any other possible factor. The purpose is to prevent economic and military aid from the West to Egypt."

There were many similar instances of Mossad committing terrorist acts, followed by the planting of false clues and blaming others.  Such is Mossad's reputation for these kinds of activities that top U.S. Army analysts believe Israel's intelligence agency, the Mossad, is,

"ruthless and cunning," "a wildcard" that "has [the] capability to target U.S. forces and make it look like a Palestinian/Arab act."

Ironically, this 68 page report by U.S. Army intelligence was reported in the Washington Times on September 10, 2001, one day before the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Michael Collins Piper authored the 9/10/01 article, "U.S. Army Officers say, "Mossad May Blame Arabs".  In a section titled, Blaming the PLO,  he wrote:

"In 1970, King Hussein of Jordan was provided incriminating intelligence that suggested the Palestine Liberation Organization was plotting to murder him and seize power. Infuriated, Hussein mobilized his forces for what has become known as the "Black September" purge of the PLO. Thousands of Palestinians living in Jordan were rounded up, some of the leaders were tortured, and in the end, masses of refugees were driven from Jordan to Lebanon.

"New data, coming to light after the murder of two leading Mossad operatives in Larnaka, Cyprus, suggested that the entire operation had been a Mossad covert action, led by one of its key operatives, Sylvia Roxburgh. She contrived an affair with King Hussein and served as the linchpin for a major Mossad coup designed to destabilize the Arabs.

"In 1982, just when the PLO had abandoned the use of terrorism, the Mossad spread disinformation about "terror attacks" on Israeli settlements along the northern border in order to justify a full-scale military invasion of Lebanon. Years later, even leading Israeli spokesmen, such as former Foreign Minister Abba Eban, admitted that the reports of "PLO terrorism" had been contrived by the Mossad.

"It is also worth noting that the attempted assassination in London of Israeli ambassador Shlomo Argov was initially blamed on the PLO. The attempted assassination was cited by Israel as one excuse for its 1982 incursion into Lebanon. In fact, the diplomat was one of Israel's "doves" and inclined toward a friendly disposition of Israel's conflict with the PLO and an unlikely target of PLO wrath.

"It appears that the assassination attempt was carried out by the Mossad-under yet another "false flag"-for two purposes: (a) elimination of a domestic "peacenik" friendly toward the Palestinians; and (b) pinning yet another crime on the PLO."

Did the Palestinian resistance fighters attack the U.S. convoy today in Gaza, Palestine today?  Possibly.

Did Mossad carry out this attack, blaming it on the Palestinians? Perhaps.

Will Palestinian people pay for the crime with their own blood?

No question about it.
